Quiet

IMG_5892sml

I’m feeling quiet at the moment. There’s nothing much I want to write about. I’m getting bored of reading gift idea reviews and Christmas crafts to do so I don’t want to add to the overflow of festive spirit exuding from the blogging world!

MG and DG have one more week at school. MG has just decided to make her friends Christmas cards so she set to with pens, crayons, glue, sequins, blank cards and envelopes. Not following anyone’s plans or ideas, not being told what to do… The carpet is covered in sequins. This year’s tree looks like Christmas has vomited over it! It’s all lovely: child-led and laid back.

Yesterday the carpet was also covered in Hama beads from where we got our bead box out and MG made her best friend a heart shaped coaster in pinks and purples. DG placed some beads randomly on a far-too-big board. I made a mouse and a turtle but didn’t keep them. We all sat on the floor together enjoying each other’s company.

Quiet is good at the moment. Next week there will be family, too much food, too many presents and even more mess. This week we can just take everything slowly. The presents are wrapped and under the tree, I’m not hosting so I don’t have to worry about the shopping. Time to enjoy the peace, time to try to keep the house a teeny bit tidy for a few more days, time to be quiet.

  1. We’re winding down. This is my last day at work and there’s just 2 more reviews queued, and 4 ‘year roundup’ articles queued before we have a bit of a (well earned) rest. I like the quiet times though, makes me savour them more knowing that it’s so rarely like this.

Absolutely top job on the blog in 2012, can’t wait to carry on reading into 2013!

    • Thank-you, I’m looking forward to it too. And to yours! Will try to keep up next year (that is with reading all the reviews, not with posting as many as you, that’s impossible!) :-) I hope you have a fab holiday, and enjoy all that extra time with C!

  2. Oh yes am all for quiet. Having had two lots of dental cutting open and sewing up in the last 8 days, 1 child off today, another child just this afternoon collected early from school because she’s poorly I’m all ready for some quiet. Wishing you more lovely times all together on the carpet with beads and sequins.

    • Thank-you. I hope you have a very relaxed Christmas, no more cutting (ouch), and that the girls are well and happy too! xx The carpet is now covered with paper, card andd crayons. We might be able to find the presents under the tree again at some point… ;-)

  3. Quiet sounds lovely. I’m going to be seriously spamming my blog with reviews over the next few days – books, board games, DVDs. And am at that point where I’m thinking of turning down a lot more reviews next year and getting back to just writing when and what I want to write. Not that I’d turn down the good picture books, though! But I had too many chapter books to do justice to and the other things don’t thrill me as much as books and become a chore. The girls enjoy reviewing picture books, but nothing else, really (though, of course, they enjoy having the whatever else it is!).

I’m actually appreciating having a really late finish to school this year, as I’m going to have all the Christmas shopping done and maybe even the wrapping before the girls finish and we can really relax over the weekend.

    • I realise I am very blessed to have this period of calm where most people have a million and one extra things to do, so I thought I’d appreciate it instead of thinking of a million and one things that I could be doing instead :-) I hope you manage to find some pockets of peace and quiet, and have a lovely holiday time too xx

  4. Ah, I wish for quiet. We’re running around like headless… turkeys attending school, church and other parties. No time for much reading or reviewing. Enjoy this respite from the bustle of Christmas! PS Just bought a couple of books for the stocking! ;-)
