When Everything Happens At Once

I’ve really felt like everything is happening at once for the last few weeks but it was taken to the level of a farce this morning…

Several weeks ago I complained for several mornings in a row that there was no hot water in the morning which culminated in my lovely father-in-law getting the plumber in to check and finding out that our pipes had totally furred up so no hot water was getting through. Today, at last, was the day where the pipes (and tank) were to be replaced, because both girls were at school and I’d already turned down three other dates for various reasons!

Today was also the day I agreed to collect a friends’ daughter after school because no one else could (and she’s a delight to have) so was hoping that the water would be back on by then!

The plumber was due to arrive at 8.30am, which is when we leave for school, and my father-in-law planned to come over to supervise. The morning didn’t go entirely to plan as I’d forgotten to switch on the immersion heater that we’d been relying on for hot water so only got a luke warm shower plus I’d forgotten to make the packed lunches for MG and DG the night before so when the doorbell rang at 8.15 I was still in a towelling robe…

Thinking it was my father-in-law I answered, to find my friend dropping off her daughter which I wasn’t expecting; and a man to read the electricity meter. And I stood there, munching toast, in my towelling robe, with semi-naked daughters running around in the background (who Mr Chaos was attempting to get dressed, also still in PJs), just thinking it was quite typical of the chaos I seem to live in!

Sometimes everything seems to happen at once. The poor meter man had to wait while I called Mr Chaos to find the key for the garage where the meter is, whilst my friend apologised profusely for not clarifying that she also wanted me to drop her daughter off at school (not a problem, I had to take my two anyhow and one of them is sort-of in the same class!) As that was happening, my father-in-law arrived and I managed to usher the three girls into the kitchen for fresh toast before rushing upstairs for some clothes…

Thank goodness for enormous towelling robes! We were only fifteen minutes late for school, and the lack of heating all day *shiver* didn’t bother the girls in the evening as they bounced about so much.

Tomorrow I’m supposed to work in the morning, I think I might delay it until Thursday. I need a break!

  1. Sounds familiar, running in circles kind of thing. It’s like a whirlwind when everything kicks off isn’t it. It’s been so cold recently, I don’t envy you not having heating. Hopefully tomorrow will be calmer! :O)
