I’m contemplating whether to have this linky monthly rather than weekly and just updating the books I read onto the one post, and having a competition open for the month. Hmm… You can link up as many times as you like if you prefer weekly though? Let me know whether you want to keep the weekly or if monthly suits in the comments. And I will go back and comment on the link-ups from the last few weeks, thank-you for continuing to support #300PBs.

I’m going to have the monthly giveaway in this post, but I haven’t decided what books to give away yet so I’m leaving the generic info for the giveaway below and will update later. I’ll make the closing date at least a week after the time I’ve added the prize details, and keep the linky open for longer even if it overlaps next week so you have a chance to enter.

I’ll come back and update this later… 😉

I never did get back in time, so the giveaway is in Week 14

Week ten already – eek! I am as always completely disorganised and not sure where I am with anything. Several of our books read aren’t on Goodreads so I need to add them. I have two weeks of comments to add, despite promising myself I’d read posts as they were added so I didn’t get behind. This wonderful post at Choosing Different explains in some way why I never seem to get anything done…

Not many ‘new’ books this week, we’re definitely in repeat season now. Time for me to make a concerted effort to pick up ones we’ve not read for a while off the shelves. I try to encourage DG to choose something from the shelves, now I’ve tidied them up! This week I put back the ones that had been creeping round the house, so it’s only the review-pile that’s messy now 😉

I’ve also been reading chapters for MG because she never listens to the picture books any more 🙁 This worked well at first, but they’ve stopped listening and started playing up and I’ve been reading to myself while they run around, which really isn’t the object of quiet time before bed so I’m feeling frustrated and ready to give up! At least DG still loves her books, she won’t go to bed without at least one three storyies: “I want my storwee!”

Mother's Day themed picture books

If I get the review copy I’ve requested, there will also be a copy of Mum’s The Word: Timothy Knapman & Jamie Littler (Hodder Children’s Books.) The Little Tiger Press and Bloomsbury Children’s Books titles are review copies, that have been read several times for review but in otherwise generally new condition. However the copy of Mummy’s Little Sunflowers (hardback) has a dent in the top front cover from the post. The Large Family books have been on shelves and repeatedly read over a few years. We take very good care of our books and there is no fading from the sun, no pen/pencil marks and no folded pages or covers but they are not up to my standards to call ‘as new’. Lovingly cared for in a smoke & pet free home. Postage is from my own pocket.

To enter the giveaway, you must* enter the linky and leave a blog comment. The winning entry will be chosen at random from blog post comments. If you don’t leave a comment, I’ll assume you don’t want to enter.
* You can enter by just leaving a blog post comment if you have nothing to link up, just tell me where you are in the challenge or a favourite read from the last week instead.

The giveaway is open to enter until the linky list closes on Sunday 9th March 2014, and a winner will be chosen at random from the comments. Open to UK addresses only I’m afraid but if you’re based elsewhere and have someone in the UK I can send to, that’s not a problem.

We reached 100 different picture books in the last week. Even on weeks when I think we haven’t read much, or have just read repeats, I’m generally pleasantly surprised. I’m also now reading the first chapter book over several nights. Actually, that’s not true, I did read Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf a couple of years ago, but I never really got the hang of reading chapters and now MG is seven it’s really about time I tried harder. We’re reading Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends. Not my first choice of book but that’s what MG and her friends all watch apparently, and so far I like how it discusses how Apple White is sad that people only see her as a pretty face rather than her accomplishments, and Raven Queen doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. I’m still only counting picture books in my totals though because I know we can easily do both, but chapters can be counted instead of (and as well as) picture books if that suits people more.

100 picture books reached (weeks 7 and 8):
Mummy’s To Do List
Bubbablue and Me

And several more very close to 100 too. ‘On track’ for the year would be about 44 books, give or take a few. But even if you’ve not managed to keep on track so far, every book is a book read and that’s a brilliant thing.

I lost a couple of people when tabs got closed down accidentally, so if you’re not on the list and want to be, please let me know.

I still need to post other giveaway winners books. They will get there…

Six weeks into the year already, how did that happen?! We seem to have been fairly consistent with the number of different books read each week so far. I feel like I’ve not been reading much at all, but we’re averaging about two books every day excluding repeats so that seems pretty good in retrospect.

We might reach 100 next week, but maybe it will be the week after. At week six last year, we were at 136 books, but DG was only at pre-school so we had more reading time together, and we would have read far more than 136 books as I could read one book five times in a row if she wanted it (and she did!)

Shout out to more people who have already got to 100 different books read: Books My Kids Read and Story Snug.

Well done all! If I’ve missed anyone, please let me know. If 100 seems really high and you’re on 30, this is still on track for 300 in the year. We all have different amounts of time and every book read is an achievement.

A fairly average week for us, a mix of re-reads and new reads, and a night or two of not much reading at all. We’re up to 57 books now, but ‘on track’ for the challenge would be 21 so don’t worry if you’re not storming along like some people have been, it all counts 🙂

We still haven’t been to the library, but that probably won’t happen until half term unless I go in and choose some books while my two are at school (or remember to get to the mobile library in time, I always forget that…)

No giveaway this week. I was going to do weekly giveaways for a bit but the postage was too high so it’s back to the original monthly plan! Until Friday, you can enter the giveaway for YA/MG books – these are generally suitable for age 9+ although some will be for older children. Next week is the first Monday in February so there will be a giveaway then 🙂
