300 Picture Books #2

Click on the badge above for details of the 300 picture books challenge and how to join in.

After a slow start for the first week, there have been a lot of picture books read in the Chaos household in the last week. I only really read to Destructo-Girl, because Mighty-Girl goes off doing different things, so I need to work on that, but DG will request piles of books in one go. She’s moved on from ‘again, again’ for every book so variety is easier in one reading session, but there is still a lot of repeat reading required.

I’m still deciding whether I should update every time we read a book or just mark it as read the first time. It will look like we haven’t read books for a long while if I don’t update, but it’s easier to just include ‘new’ books for the challenge and I was terrible at keeping everything updated last year! At the moment I’m only putting first read date on Goodreads for my 2014 shelf.

This week I’ve read a lot of Hairy Maclary. This is thanks to Adventures in Homeschooling who reminded me we hadn’t read any for ages. Ages turned out to be more than a year, because there was only one Hairy Maclary book tracked on my Goodreads last year. Ooops. It’s been a joy to read them again. And again. And again…

I thought about having a prize for whoever got to 100 books first, but then I thought that wouldn’t be fair as some people have more reading time than others, so I’ll stick to the randomly drawn monthly/weekly giveaways.

Last week’s winner of five baby/toddler books is: Jax! Congratulations!

No giveaway this week because I haven’t been organised enough to review the books first.

  1. Will come back later to add to the linky once it’s working.

We’ve only just discovered Hairy McClary and I was a bit disappointed really. Not sure what N thought – he just likes books, we read one, then he grabs the next one, so will have to see whether it’s a grower given so many rave about them.

  2. We’re up to 23 books. I took the story collections off my board, seemed a bit like cheating as we were only reading one story at a time 🙂 http://www.pinterest.com/cjfriess/300-picture-book-reading-challenge-2014/

  4. We’re big Hairy Maclary fans – although different characters are popular with different children. It was Slinki Malinky that we enjoyed last week. Amazed by how much reading everyone fits in to be honest!
